Give to Gain: Buzz Women Gambia celebrates 8 years

On 2 April 2026, Buzz Women Gambia marked its eighth anniversary with a landmark event in Banjul. Under the theme "Give to Gain", they brought together 160 anchor women from across the country, TV crews, government ministers, ambassadors, and corporate partners.
Since its founding on 5 April 2018, Buzz Women Gambia has reached more than 40,000 women with training programmes focused on financial independence, business development, environmental sustainability, and community leadership. What began as a grassroots education initiative- bringing learning to women’s doorsteps, community by community- has grown into a national movement.
Transformational journeys
The anchor women at the heart of that movement took centre stage on the day. Attendees were treated to powerful success stories from women who have benefited from Buzz Women Gambia’s initiatives, including the Inner Strength Program, Buzz Green, and Inspirational Fellowship Program. These interventions have enabled participants to launch their own businesses, improve household livelihoods, and become influential leaders in their communities.
The honorable Fatou Sanyang Kinteh, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, addressed the gathering and praised the organisation’s impact: “When women are educated, empowered, and given equal opportunities, they become catalysts for economic growth and poverty reduction.”
Launch of Jambarr Fund
A major highlight of the evening was the launch of the Jambarr Fund: a new fund dedicated to supporting the training of more women in The Gambia. Prominent businesswoman Amie Bensouda announced a personal contribution of 100,000 dalasi to the fund, calling the investment ‘a powerful affirmation of the strength, dignity, and potential of the women we serve.’
Dave Jongeneelen, founder of Buzz Women, reflected on the organisation’s philosophy: “We are not in the business of helping women, but in the field of transformation. We believe all women have the power within themselves. We are here to remind them of that, and to help them activate it.”
“Eight years on, this is no longer just an organisation. It is a movement, rooted in the hearts of 40,000 women across this country.“
Fatou Touray Cham, National Director of Buzz Women Gambia, echoed that spirit: “Eight years on, this is no longer just an organisation. It is a movement, rooted in the hearts of 40,000 women across this country.”
The resounding message from the gathering was one of collective responsibility. Organizers and participants alike stressed that empowering women is not only a matter of justice but a strategic pathway to national development and prosperity.
The event concluded with renewed calls for sustained partnership between government, civil society, and the private sector to ensure Gambian women continue to thrive and lead the country toward a brighter, more equitable future.
