Rajeshwari is a force to reckon with!

In the village of Bisalahalli, Chikkaballpur district, a 29-year-old woman has transformed her life and the lives of those around her. Once a housewife, she has blossomed into a community leader and entrepreneur, all thanks to her determination and the support of the Spoorthi Fellowship Program. Rajeshwari completed her 12th grade, marrying a wedding photographer who also runs a photo studio. Together, they have a preschool-going daughter and a father-in-law who requires special care.

Rajeshwari completed the Spoorthi Fellowship in September of 2023, and realised that she didn’t want her ‘secret’ interest in photography to be a secret any longer. "I realised I could contribute more than just being a “housewife”," she said, reflecting on her journey. Her day begins early, as she manages the photo studio from 10 AM to 6  PM. But her ambitions do not stop there.

In July 2024, she opened her own snack shop called Mona Chats, running it from 4 PM to 8 PM. This venture not only showcases her culinary skills but also her entrepreneurial spirit. "I want to do something new every day," she shared, embodying her vibrant personality.

Her snack shop is just one of the many initiatives she has taken. Rajeshwari also encouraged her brother to move in with her, and together they started a vegetable selling business. With the help of a second-hand Innova car, her brother travels to surrounding villages, selling fresh produce. Rajeshwari manages the photo studio and the snack shop while supporting her brother’s venture. "We are building something together," she said, proud of their collaboration. The total investment in the snack shop and vegetable business was Rs.2,00,000 which she obtained through SHG loan (Self-Help Group). The total income is Rs.50,000 per month.

Rajeshwari's leadership qualities were further awakened through her training. She began conducting Beehive meetings in May 2024, where she created a support group for women in her community. These meetings have become a safe space for women to share their problems and seek advice. "I want to lend a supporting shoulder to the women in my community," she expressed, highlighting her commitment to helping others.  The modules helped her realise her potential and the impact she could have on her community. "I can bring about change, one small step at a time," she reflected, emphasising her belief in gradual progress. Rajeshwari's communication skills have also improved significantly. She connects with women in her community, offering warmth and understanding during their times of need. Her ability to listen and provide guidance has made her a respected figure among her peers.

As she continues to grow, Rajeshwari has set her sights on expanding her businesses. She dreams of strengthening her photo studio, snack shop, and vegetable selling business. Additionally, she plans to enrol in the Buzz Entrepreneurship Program to gain more skills and knowledge. "I want to learn more and do better," she said. Her family, especially her husband, is incredibly supportive of her journey. "He is delighted by my progress and the way I have ventured into various avenues," she shared, grateful for the encouragement she receives at home.

Rajeshwari has shown us that she hones many identities - she’s an entrepreneur, a photographer, a homemaker and an individual who dreams!
